NSF is the file formate of Lotus Notes. The Business software stands for Notes Storage Facility. Like PST, an NSF file can hold multiple databases like emails, contacts, notes, messages and journals of Lotus Notes. It stores data in document units called Notes.

NSF file extension is hosted by Lotus Domino Server which can be downloaded to work offline. Like MS Exchange for OST in MS Outlook, Domino Server automatically synchronizes the changes made in the offline to the master file. In Windows, NSF files are created and supported by IBM Lotus Notes and Domino Server only. If users are looking to export from NSF to other platforms, they can use a third application.
