An EMLX file stores individual email message of Apple Mail 2.0. It saves the whole message body including the subject, sender and recipient. The file format is not capable of storing email attachments. It saves only the message part of emails.

EMLX files are supported by the latest versions of Apple Mail, but these files cannot be opened manually. Double-click an EMLX file to access it. The file format can open with double-click until the Apple Mail is set as the default app.
Since EMLX data is saved in the plain text, users can access EMLX in a text editor like MS Notepad and Apple TextEdit. However, for this, you may switch from .emlx to .txt.
